Artwork Number 39

Monster That Took My Wife

Artwork Description

This is the bunyip.

The bunyip is the monster that took my wife.

Round and round the bunyip goes.

And nobody knows.

Where the bunyip goes.

Nobody knows what the bunyip grows.

Do you?

This is a family photograph. Look for the family group hiding in the broken nose.

As soon as Louisa saw this one and heard the title of it she said, YES! She immediately identified with it.

She shocked me. It was in my bedroom and she couldn't be in the room with it.

I made some flippant remark about it and said I think I'm going to call it 'The Monster That Ate My Wife' and she said 'yes'! She took on the meaning straight away.

The monster was the darkness Louisa was feeling at the time. She was on the brink of her consciousness. She was having a hard time. She felt like she was in physical danger from the painting. It had a dark meaning.

This one has been lampooned by some people who think it's a big joke. But, I'm happy for people to think that way. It gets my paintings up on walls!

I feel this is the best painting I have done.
