Artwork Number 13
The Farce of Freedom
Artwork Description
"I paint out of my mind" Michael shares.
Is that where freedom lies?
Michael is a musician. Rock n roll moved his spirit, starting with The Beatles as a child. The music of Bob Dylan, Travelling Wilburys, The Pretenders, Neil Young and many others would fill our home. But it was the music of Frank Zappa, that he loved, that confused me! But I listen to it now, and I see it in his artworks.
“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.”
― Frank Zappa
I asked Michael “Why do you think people like this one so much?
“Cos it's easy to understand” was his response. And then he said “Shit I hope this works because I like doing it!”
